A meeting of two: eye to eye face to face, and when you are near, I will tear your eyes out and place them instead of mine, and you will tear my eyes out and will place them instead of yours, then I will look at you with your eyes and you will look at me with mine.”  - J.L. Moreno

This psychodrama training is designed to teach participants experiential methods that can be incorporated into their clinical work and will focus on the psychodramatic tool of role reversal. Reversing roles or stepping into the role of the other helps increase empathy, spontaneity, and perspective taking, making space for increased creativity and problem solving.

Dr. Lakin-Starr and Dr. Primm will provide participants with personalized feedback and guidance throughout the training day. Participants can expect to gain a deeper understanding of the psychodrama approach and will develop the skills necessary to incorporate these tools into their own professional work.

Participants will also advance their knowledge and professional skills in facilitating groups through advanced learning about group dynamics (sociometry), roles, and the three phases to a psychodrama group (i.e., warm up, action, and sharing).  Participants will also learn about the history and evolution of psychodrama, sociometry, and group therapy which were developed by Dr. Jacob L. Moreno. Finally, the effectiveness of psychodrama techniques and research will be explored.

Previous training in psychodrama is not required. These sessions are for anyone from the first time participant to individuals with advanced training in psychodrama. A lunch break will be provided, and complimentary snacks and beverages will be available throughout the training.

This training provides 11 CEs for Illinois Social Workers and Counselors and for Registered Dietitians (RD/RDN), DTRs, NDTRs, and clinicians Certified in Public Health (CPH). It also provides 12 psychodrama training hours for students who are working toward ABE certification in psychodrama, sociometry, and group psychotherapy.
