Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps clients identify the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and teaches them to challenge unhelpful cognitions that negatively impact their lives. This training is designed to teach participants how to enhance and deepen basic CBT interventions using action methods and psychodramatic techniques. Participants will learn how to take classic pen and paper CBT tools, like a thought record or exercise in challenging maladaptive thoughts, and move clients into action to provide a valuable opportunity to achieve a deeper level of progress.

Brittany Lakin-Starr, Ph.D., TEP and Kate Merkle, LCSW, MPH, RDN, PAT will provide participants with personalized feedback and guidance throughout the training day. Participants can expect to gain a deeper understanding of the psychodrama approach and will develop the skills necessary to incorporate these tools into their own professional work.

Previous training in psychodrama or CBT is not required. These sessions are for anyone from the first time participant to individuals with advanced training in psychodrama. A lunch break will be provided, and complimentary snacks and beverages will be available throughout the training.

This training provides 7 CEs for Illinois Social Workers and Counselors and for Registered Dietitians (RD/RDN), DTRs, NDTRs, and clinicians Certified in Public Health (CPH). It also provides 8 psychodrama training hours for students who are working toward ABE certification in psychodrama, sociometry, and group psychotherapy.
