Action exploration at Chicago Center for Psychodrama!
Chicago Center for Psychodrama
Our mission is to ethically train skilled practitioners proficiently in sociometry and psychodrama techniques, empowering them to make meaningful impacts across diverse professional fields. Through comprehensive training, we empower individuals to harness the transformative power of psychodrama in areas including clinical, medical, and legal practices, research endeavors, education initiatives, and beyond. With a global perspective, we aim to promote the widespread adoption of psychodrama methods, fostering the well-being of individuals and communities worldwide.
What is Psychodrama?
Psychodrama is an expressive arts therapy that uses guided dramatic action to create meaningful change. Psychodrama, sociometry (the connections among people), and group therapy were developed by Dr. Jacob Moreno. Because psychodrama is an experiential method, it allows clients to go deeper than traditional talk therapy, by examining problems in action in the “here and now.” This can help clients gain an enhanced understanding of a problem, more clearly identify possible solutions, and experience behavior change. It can also help clients let go of old roles and try on new and more fulfilling ways of interacting with themselves and others. Psychodrama facilitates growth by increasing spontaneity and perspective taking. Psychodrama is often conducted as group therapy but can also be helpful when used in individual therapy. Psychodrama has been used all over the world in many different clinical settings and has helped in the treatment of mood disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, trauma, chronic mental illness, and relational issues.
